Byredo Parfums BLANCHE⎜Second Series, The Hair Perfume

I'm coming back to you with a new update on a product I've been carrying around with me everywhere. If you don't know already, you can read this post here about my love for the Byredo Parfums, and especially the one called Blanche. Recently, Byredo Parfums released a new line of hair perfumes.

HELP! HAIR Products Haul

My hair is a mess. I am tempted to dye my hair again, but I know I shouldn't because it is so damaged.

Shampoo Worth Blogging⎪Clear Scalp & Hair

I don't ever find the urge to blog about shampoos. I've always used drugstore products, some expensive ones too, but nothing was too spectacular. But for the past few months, I've been reaching for the same shampoo after finishing each bottle. That is the Clear Scalp and Hair shampoo.

I used to have horrible dandruff problems. I've tried the famous Head & Shoulders, but that didn't do much. I used organic shampoos and other recommended ones. Nothing really helped.

But I came across this shampoo after reading Into The Gloss's blogpost on Miranda Kerr. She's the cover girl for this hair brand, and I don't know,  her little snippet on why she loves this product sold me.

I wanted something that would clarify my scalp but not dry up the ends of my hair. I know most of the clarifying detox shampoos are recommended only for the scalp, but what a pain is that! Some of them don't even foam well, and it's all just a fuss. But this shampoo was promising a clear scalp and healthy hair.

After the first use, I knew I was pretty sold. Significantly less dandruff and my roots were... well, alive. My scalp felt so clean but my hair was so soft at the same time!

Now it's a staple hair product for me, and a constant repurchase. I particularly like the Volumizing Root Boost line.

New Discovery: DRY SHAMPOOS

There are times when you discover something you've been looking for all your life, and all along it was right there. Okay, let's get to business. What am I talking about?

DRY SHAMPOOS.

Okay, so this is an old thing. A lot of people have used it, but I haven't. I never thought of trying it. Never attempted it. And, I never heard good things about it from anyone around me.

But, in case you haven't read my previous mention of my haircare routine, I get my hair chemically straightened twice a year. Originally, my hair is a frizz-ball. Sigh. But when I chemically straighten it, it becomes a blanket of silk :)

All is well with the straightening process, but there is one huge downfall. You can't wash your hair for 60 hours. Now, I don't know about you, but that's crazy and I just can't do it. I end up waiting about a day and a half and give up. When I didn't have bangs, I could wait out two days or something. When I had less things to do with my life, I'd find the time in my week when I would have NOTHING to do so that when I end up with oily hair, I can just sit in my room and come in contact with no one (a bit exaggerated but still, true).

But this time around, I had not only bangs but work. I mean, I can't miss out work just because I have oily bangs??? So, I had to think of something to cut the oiliness. Then, I thought. Why not try out dry shampoos?

My original notion of the whole thing was: yucky, gooey, powdery, messy, and ineffective. I was nothing but doubts about it.

But then I watched Essie from Essiebutton talk about it in one of her videos, then I remember Ingrid from MissGlamorazzi talk about it. So, I decided to give it a try.

I went for Batiste dry shampoos. Ulta is currently doing a buy one, get 2nd 50% off. So, just in case I got one full size and one travel size, in the scents Floral and Cherry.

I mean, before I bought this, I really did my research. There are so many dry shampoos out there and so many mixed reviews. I went safe and got the cheaper one that had the best reviews.

This morning before work, I thought I'd give it a try. Lifted a portion of my bangs. PSSST. Spritz. Then I massaged it in with my fingers.

then.... voila!

Fresh. Clean. Natural tousle.

The result was so good, I chucked the travel size into my bag and headed for work. I would spritz it maybe every four hours to give my bangs and anywhere a bit of a lift. Wow. It was so good!

Now, I'm literally addicted.

So, where was I before dry shampoos? I don't know. But what I do know is that now my life has gotten so much better and so much easier. And days when my hair is clean but my bangs keep getting weighed down, I can save some real shampoo for this and look as fresh as day :) Summer is also here. That can only mean sweat and oiliness. But no worries. I got these to back me up! x

completely filmed this on a whim! i came back from work and thought, why not! excuse the not-camera-ready face but hope it was helpful anyway.

BANG! Rolling Bangs in for the Lazy Gals :)

I recently cut my bangs (fringe in the UK?) . I used to have them for years and years until I got rid of them, which took about two years. So, cutting them back off was a pretty big deal. I thought of getting a wig for my bangs so when I didn't want bangs, I could just unclip 'em off! But, that seemed a bit... bleh. So, I cut it about a month ago. And... I had completely forgotten what a hassle and bother they could be!

As I mentioned in this hair care post a few weeks ago, I always get my hair chemically straightened. Usually, the hair cut and perm happens all in a day. So, what happens is... you end up with really straight bangs. Like. STRAIGHT. bangs. And who would want that? There needs to be some volume, right? A bit of naturalness you know? So, what I usually do is blow dry my bangs so that it could get a natural "bump".

BUT! Then, I discovered this thing. And I never thought it'd do the job considering how straight my hair is AND how thick they are. Now ladies (and guys??) if you are one to be lazy about blowdrying and having to that every time you wash your hair, then listen up!

Beware these things catch any loose hair and well, stick to everything! :)

These hair curlers are amazing! What you do is take that piece of bangs that you know need a curl and curl them they way... well, the way you do with hair curlers. Then, go about doing your thing and depending on how much volume/curl you want, you can leave it for maybe 1 minute to as long as you want. Usually, I put it in when my hair is still damp. Then, if I want a really natural curl, I leave it on for maybe 5 minutes or when most of the water dried off. Then when I take it out, then voila! That's it.

But, since I have thick hair and an oily scalp... if I only do it for a few minutes, it has a tendency to go straight in the middle of the day. That's the case even with blow dry. So, I like to start off with a bit of curl. Then, you can always comb it down and if it's too excess, just damp your fingers and comb it through. Then, it'll be just fine :)

These are cheap and affordable, coming in all different sizes. Get it in any drugstore or any haircare store. Depending on the size of "bump" you want, pick that and just curl them in.

Argan Oil... LOVE

It's a day before New Year's Eve, two days before 2013. Crazy huh? The way life speeds by you even before you know it. Time is crazy and sometimes we'll want our youth back and all the missed moments and chances, but unfortunately, they won't come back. But what will is a future and more opportunities for a better life. Whatever 2012 has been for all of you out there, remember never to give up and to always believe that everything we've lived through has been to make a better tomorrow!

Whew. Very irrelevant to a beauty blogpost huh? Though unrelated, I cannot pass a chance to mention that undeniable coming of the future. So, I'll stop right here and proceed to introduce to you all (the last review blogpost for 2012) about my love for ARGAN OIL.

I received this mini/travel size Argan oil from NuMe in the November Glossybox. I'm not too keen on hair products but I thought I'd give this a try after a trip to the hair salon and hearing a whole lecture about how important it is to keep my roots healthy, etc., Just as a brief, let me tell you shortly about my haircare. I get my hair chemically straighten about twice a year. It's called a Magic Straight Perm, or some people know it as Japanese Straight Perm. It's about $150-250 depending on where you go and how long your hair is. I've been getting my hair straighten since 7th grade... let's just say more than ten years ago.

Magic Perms are amazing. I have a slightly frizzy curly hair (un-Asian of me, I know). It completely straightens your hair and leaves them looking unbelievable glossy. You can't wash your hair for about 60 hours after the perm. You can't tie your hair back or put your hair behind your ears. This is because it will leave a dent during those two-three days you don't wash your hair. After you wash your hair, I try to be safe and not tie my hair for about a week. Usually though, after 3 days, you're free to do whatever! (You can see a picture of my straightened hair in this post.)

You never have to iron your hair straight or do anything to get them silky straight. They'll always be that way! Wow right? But then here's the downfall. Because it is a really powerful chemical, it leaves your hair pretty damaged. It may not be visible at first sight, but where your hair is finer than other places, you'll see that your hair is damaged and burnt. It also may leave your hair brittle and weak, although it's not visible to anybody on the street.

The hair salon always tells you to give it a lot of treatment at home, condition it, etc., So, I make sure to do that. Thankfully though, I don't have too much trouble with all that. But, it doesn't hurt to get a little boost you know?

This ARGAN OIL is something I've never even heard of before. I've tried Moroccan oil before, and plenty other oils. I've found that Moroccan oil weighs down your hair so much! You always need to make sure that you don't put on too... much. Also, I don't have a problem with that, but my sister says that it makes her break out where the oiled hair touches her skin. That doesn't sound too pleasing. Though silky and glossy your hair becomes, I've always found that the oil sits on the hair rather than enriching the texture of the hair itself.

Now, this babe here is quite unlike that! I use A LOT and rub it from roots and with the reminder, move up and spread it throughout my hair. I like to apply it when it's still wet. And... oh my gosh. All the tangles are GONE and it leaves your hair feeling so soft and silky, glossy throughout the day! What I love is that though it is an oil, it does NOT leave the hair weighed down at all! I have an oily scalp, and this oil doesn't add any problem to my scalp or hair texture at all.

My roots become healthier and my hair overall looks so much healthier, let alone looking great! :) I've used this oil nonstop the last two months and I still have about half left. I'm definitely going to buy the full size. I've been so pleased with argan oil that I've bought my friend some from Josie Maran to try.

If you're looking for a great hair product, do go out and try this! I couldn't say enough good things about this :)

November Glossybox!

My November Glossybox finally came! Phew. It took forever :( Well, finally it's gotten to my front porch and into my hands. This box was lovely. It had a good mixture of new things to try out. With the theme "Tis the season to be glossy!" it had an array of eye products, face, cheeks, hair, and nails.

Here are the list of products:
  • Illamasqua Lip & Eye Medium pencil
  • Incoco Nail Polish applicator
  • Kryolan for Glossybox blusher in glossy rosewood
  • Nume Style "Arganics by NuMe"
  • Skin&Co Roma Truffle Serum
My person favorite is the Illamasqua lip and eye, although I'd go for just the eye. It's a purple brown creamy eye pencil and it glides on really smoothly. I also love the nail stickers. I've never tried anything like that before but the festive red makes me want to play around with it. I have yet to learn how to do it! The blush is much like the lipstick Glossybox had collaborated with Kryolan. It seems really pigmented. On my skin, it comes out like a baby pansy pink. I need to play with it a bit more to know if I really like it.

Overall a really fun and interesting box! :)

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse / Multi-purpose Oil

This stuff is Nuxe's bestselling product. It sells some crazy amount every few seconds and it really is luxuriously pleasing to use. I leave this on my top-shelf where the golden packaging gives a fine boost to the entire visage of my top-shelf :) It's a multi-purpose oil that you could use for your face, hair, and body with their signature Prodigieuse scent embedded in it. The smell is really lovely and rich. The bottle came with a sample parfum that I used it and have since seriously considered getting it (however resisting knowing I have enough perfumes!)

I haven't tried it on my face yet. I'm a bit wary of scented products on my face, but I have definitely tried it on my body and hair. I think this does amazing things to my hair. It has the Moroccan Oil effect but without the heaviness that it has. I also know that some people dislike the smell of the Moroccan oil. Well peeps, why not try this one? It's scent is... I couldn't tell you. It's not one of those "note" thingies so go try it out yourselves. It leaves my hair feeling super soft and shiny, and even bouncy. It doesn't weight down at all.

For body, you can spritz it or spray it on your hands and rub it through. It is a drying oil so it doesn't leave any grease on your skin. I don't feel this penetrates your skin and hydrates immensely but it does leave your outer skin supple and soft, and smelling nice :)

Love it. It's a nice luxury oil to use for hair and body (and face if you want)! I'd have to use this up at least half to know if this is a must repurchase, but I'm loving the experience thus far!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray

I was first introduced to the world of Bumble and Bumble by my friend who said she was offered a haircut by one of the Bb students(?). But I wasn't one to spend money on hair products so I did no further research... until my obsession with all these great beauty bloggers online! yay...

Anyway, I've always been told that my unruly, curly, thick, and lots of hair is unmanageable. I started chemically straightening my hair really early on, and now I've moved over to the Keratin straightening treatment. I might blog about that in a different post since I have much to say about the wonders of doing treatment over say, Magic straight perms or Japanese straightening.

So once I get my hair straightened, styling is something you just don't see with me. But as I said before, I've been wanting to try some few things here and there and one of things I picked up about a month or two ago was the Bumble and Bumble "Surf spray", which I bought at Space NK in Soho, NYC.

It does just what it says it will. It gives you that beachy tousled hair. It adds volume to your hair and it shapes just the way you touch up on it, which is nice. Because you can build with this spray, you can have a subtle voluminous tousled hair look or go extreme and have that really "just from the beach" sexy hair look. You can apply it either on wet or dry hair, but I've found it's easier after I've dried my hair to just spray this near the middle-ends of my hair.

One difficulty I found with my hair was that since I had chemically/treated straightened my hair, unless I made a few natural curls or "tuck-ins" in my hair, this spray would just make my hair even straighter and very unattractive. So what I do is wash my hair and sleep with my hair tousled overnight. That way when I wake up, I have a natural curl throughout my hair. Then I spray this minimally all over, near the bottoms, and it gives a very nice look.

For those who hate crunchy feeling, well... this gives you some crunch. But if you spray it minimally it shouldn't be that bad. It is a salt-infused spray so for those with really damaged hair... you might want to do some hair masks before using this too often.

Otherwise, for a sexy beach tousled careless hair... :) this sure is great!
