Definition Makeup⎪Eyes & Lips

I received a gift from a friend and used it for the first time on camera. It was the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet "La Romanesque". I loved, loved it so much!

Anyway, this time around I'm being brave and experimenting with the whole "doing-my-makeup-on-camera" thing. This meant exposing my bare naked face. I had to add some filter because my bare face is really... ha! But still, to show the effect of makeup, I thought it was best to show it.


It's a short clip, but hopefully you get the gist of how I did my makeup. I called this the Definition Makeup because it is a general makeup I would wear to emphasize my eyes and lips without looking overdone.

Because I filmed this with my iPad, I thought I'd show you with a high quality picture what my eyes looked like after makeup. I used MAC Soba all over the lid, and then Laura Mercier Gilded Rosegold to contour the eyes. Then, I added MAC A Natural Flirt on my brow bone and inner corners to kind of brighten and blend everything together.

I'm going to do a separate post for just the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick because it deserves a post of its own! In the meantime, you can watch the video here. If you enjoy it, give it a thumbs up and hopefully I can continue to improve the videos!

Beautiful Rose Gold Eyeshadow by Laura Mercier

I've been a lazy day girl. I've been wearing only one eyeshadow. The last time I tried doing the whole multiple eyeshadow shading and blending, I looked way too overdone. It's almost as if I can't believe I used to wear that much eye makeup on a regular basis! Now that I am used to wearing a single eyeshadow, I feel that feels the most comfortable.



The good news is that I've found an eyeshadow I've been wearing nonstop. I realized I've never blogged about it when this product definitely deserves a good mention.

It is the Laura Mercier "Gilded RoseGold" Illuminating Eye Colour. It is simply beautiful. The pigmentation is super creamy and super rich. It reminds me of the Estee Lauder gelée eyeshadows that I absolutely love! It looks like gel on the eyes. (You can read about that palette here.)

The packaging doesn't look like much, but holy moly! One swatch, and you can see how rich the color is.

Natural Eyes. BENEFIT It's Complicated EYESHADOW

I have been returning to the simple liquid black eyeliner look. Basically, zero to minimal eyeshadow and all emphasis on the eyeliner and/or just a black mascara. There has been a certain eyeshadow I have been wearing for this zero-minimal eyeshadow eye-look and it's Benefit's Long-Weaer Shadow in the shade It's Complicated. I have been eyeing this shade for such a long time, but because it is so neutral to my skin, I felt I didn't "need" it. But, for months I have been loving that sheen and gleam across the eyelid that is just one shade brighter than your skin tone. It catches the light in such a pretty way, and helps the eyeliner and/or the mascara pop out. It also keeps the eye-makeup fresh!

I never tried Benefit's eyeshadows but they seemed quite nice. Now that I've used it for awhile, I can say that they are very creamy and nicely pigmented. The Longwear Powder Shadow is long-wearing but it will crease if you have oily lids. With an eye-primer, something like the Nars Pro Prime it can definitely last all day. I'm all for wearing eye primer no matter what!

The shade is lovely. It's a bit orange/yellow compared to say the all-famous MAC All that Glitters eyeshadow. I know a lot of pink-toned gals like that for the "all-over-the-lid" shade. Unfortunately for me, that shade is a bit too pink and a bit too bright! This shade "It's Complicated" is the perfect shade for the light/medium yellow skin-toned! It doesn't look like you have any eyeshadow on, but in the sun or in a certain light, it catches just the right amount of sparkle! I love it that it also brightens the eyelids a bit. I also like to apply it in the inner corners and a bit down on the waterline, near the inner-corners so that it gives that slight brightening effect!

Side note: When I first saw this shade it looked so much more orange than when I had swatched it. A Sephora lady kindly explained that the testers are oxidized because they are left open and so the color looks different from say the new ones, but that on the lid, the colors will be what I expect them to be. Surely, it was so just in case you are worried about the shade in the package, don't worry! It will that lovely yellow-tan-gold-peach shade!

Maybelline Color Tattoo: Worth the Hype?

EssieButton (aka Estee) on Youtube uploaded a video on products that are worth the hype. Some of them (most) were drugstore products. Even though so many people fall in love with drugstore products, I seriously and honestly without any discrimination against drugstore products, truly don't like a lot of them! I feel, only in terms of makeup, that they can be a waste of money. They do the work at times, but sometimes I feel like it's better saving that money and buying something really beautiful, luxurious, and lovely. Still yet, these amazing Youtubers are so convincing, sometimes I need to give it a try. Estee mentioned this Maybelline Color Tattoo, as she has in so many of her videos, and I thought hey, maybe it really IS worth the hype.

So I took a trip to CVS. I saw the exact shade she recommended: Bad to the Bronze. I stood there thinking if it was worth the $8-9 dollars. Thought, hey maybe I'll try it. I wanted to try a cream eyeshadow anyway. So, I bought it. Brought it home. Swatched it. Applied it. And thought. WOW.

The pigmentation is gorgeous. This is a bronze that suits my skin tone. You can blend it for a more natural look. I liked the look of packing it on. It captures the light so well and gives your eyes this dimension. Lovely!

The orange you see was a Revlon lipstick I had bought and was swatching. That post might be coming up later!

My sister is always going on and on about the Giorgio Armani cream(?) or pressed powder eyeshadows that come in a similar packaging as this. Theirs are really really lovely too, no doubt. But heck, it's so expensive! But Maybelline seems to be a great dupe for them. So. Much. Cheaper, and yet the pigmentation is SOLID, deep, and shades are really lovely!

It really seems to be a great color to pack on your eyes on those lazy days you don't want to be standing there applying two or three eyeshadows!

Now that I enjoy this so much, I'm going to try the Stila smudge pot in "Kitten" next! I've heard a lot of hype around that. I'm going to trust the hype and try it out!

Bright Eyes

I'm on a roll with Burberry products aren't I? Besides their price, I love their beauty products so much (as well as their fashion). I hardly see them go wrong. Every product is such a treat to the face. This time, I want to talk about the Burberry Sheer Concealer (Luminous concealer) which is perfection for under-eye brightening.

I'm going to just put it out there. I don't have dark circles. Not unless I haven't had a week of proper sleep, which I have to say, happens time and time again. Otherwise, my usual self never finds any problem with concealing under the eye. However, there are those undeniable days when you definitely need a pick-me-up. You do your makeup routine. You look in the mirror. Something isn't... well, fresh. Then maybe you think it's the color foundation you used, or maybe the eyeshadows. But then you realize, it's the usual routine. Nothing's different, so what's wrong? Well, more often than not, I've found that what you may be needing is some... BRIGHTENING.

What I found lovely about this Sheer Concealer is that it is definitely sheer. I'm young and so I don't have wrinkles under my eyes. But I often share beauty products with my older sisters and I thought this would be a great component to look for in a under eye concealer that we could all share. This doesn't crease at all, even in the fine wrinkles. It's so moisturizing and "wet"(?... that doesn't sound too flattering but you know what I mean).

It's a pen so if you just click, a nice amount comes out. Don't click too much though! Then you can put it under eyes. I like to just pat it all along, almost like a triangle downward from my eyes. This instantly brightens the eyes and the entire face! Of course, this isn't just for the under eyes. It's great for wherever you want to brighten. Maybe on the ridge of your nose, on your chin, and maybe mid-forehead. Love it!

The color I have No. 02 in "Soft Beige". For those of you who don't know me, I have a light-medium (more of a medium) yellow-undertone skin. As you can see, this has an orange/peach tone. That, as I have learned through beauty blogs, is exactly what you want to look for to cancel out the blueness of the under eye dark circles! It really does the work.

Although I don't use this often, I have to say it feels reassuring to have it around for those not-so-good days!

Tom Ford Limited Edition "01 ENCHANTED" Eyeshadow Palette REVIEW

I'm excited to introduce to you my first Tom Ford eyeshadow palette. I have to say, getting a hold of Tom Ford beauty products is pretty hard. Most stores only sell their lipsticks, and I wanted more than to choose from online a palette that I would be spending quite some money on. I was able to go the Saks Fifth Avenue to check the products in person. The one I settled for was the 01 Enchanted palette, a quad of silver, pink, gray, and mauvey purple/brown. I'm not sure if each color has its own name, but I fail to know of it, and therefore only list it in their family of color.

It comes in Tom Ford's luxurious packaging. 

The colors are most gorgeous. I've always been one to avoid sparkles in eyeshadows, but the thing about these eyeshadows is that they give a "wet" look and I have to say, it is very flattering on the eyes. I thought that these colors were completely wearable yet flattering, achieving both natural and dramatic looks.

The picture above is one in a different lighting. On the skin, it again has a different effect. Strangely, the colors change into a very purple tone on my skin tone.

The eyeshadows are a bit sheerer than I thought, but it transfers completely and naturally onto the skin. They blend brilliantly and the colors within the quad are amazing used together. I use mostly the three colors besides the lightest one. I have the pink tone all over my eyelids, then apply the gray on the lower crease. Then I add the dark brown on the outer edges and blend them all together.

Pictures are better than words, and I thought showing you swatches would be a better description of the palette. I love it and every time I apply it, it's a session of luxury pampering!

NARS Kuala Lumpur

I am currently loving Nars eyeshadow duo "Kuala Lumpur". Crazy name with such beautiful colors. It is very pigmented and creamy, and the two blend very well with each other. I put the lighter shade all over my lid and take the darker color at the ends and blend it together. I love the plum color on the eyelids. It gives such a sultry and fun look. I've been meaning to look for a purple-plum color as I've heard it brings out the dark eyes.

These two definitely work really well together. I might pop in a brighter color still towards the front in the inner corners because in the summer it might feel the colors are a bit dark. But they are buildable so you can play it soft or make it more sultry!

I'm keeping an eye out for some other Nars eyeshadows. I love the texture and colors that the Nars range has!

Estēe Lauder Bronze Sands Eye Palette Review

I had been eyeing Estēe Lauder's Pure Color Five Gelée Powder Eyeshadow in Bronze Sands ($45), ever since it was mentioned by Anna, also known as "Vivianmakeup" and Lisa Eldridge on their videos and blogs. It looked like the perfect shades for a bronze summer look. What I also drew me to this "LIMITED EDITION" product was the very fine and deliciously printed patterns on the shadows.

This is also supposed to be a revolutionary technology of makeup that gives a highly metallic wet look. You can, like most eye shadows, apply it dry or wet for a more dramatic look.

I have seen worn these shades every single day! It brightens up your eyes, and I like to use the green on the lower eyelids to brighten up my complexion. They blend beautifully and smooth on your eyelids in full pigments and like a cream or gel.

I also love Estee Lauder's packaging. It's sleek and chic, a beaut when placed on your topshelf!

I searched for this product in four different department stores and they were all sold out. I eventually ordered it online on Estee Lauder's own website. I loved their services. They provide one or two 7-day or 10-day sample(s) of your choice with free shipping and return!

ByTerry Intense Liquid Eyeliner Precise Tattoo

The ByTerry Intense Liquid Eyeliner Precise Tattoo ($43)

This does not do a good job in drawing on the eyes after you apply eyeshadow. It comes out dark when applied to clean skin, but I don't know about you, but I apply eyeliner after I do my eyeshadows. I found that this eyeliner does not draw well after eyeshadows!

This was a no-no!
