Brand Discovery: 3 Concept Eyes, Lip Lacquers Review

Left to right: bumble gum, pink boom, bon bon, xxorange, fever

Another Korean brand coming your way. This time: 3 Concept Eyes (briefly, 3CE). This was a totally new brand for me, so I was excited to try them out the minute I got them. The colors looked amazing, and the model made it look super fun. I went for their lip lacquers.

A beauty trend in South Korea seems to be the lip tint, where they apply on in the inner parts of the lips and then smudge it slightly towards to outer. They don't seem to like the full-on, lip-fulling look. I don't quite like the whole lip tint concept (really don't), but their lip tints looked really fun to wear.

How to Wear Tips:
This lip lacquers are so fully pigmented, that you seriously only need two dabs! Because these are so saturated with vibrant color, I take two dabs and smudge it all over my lips up to my lip line.
Because this is on the drying side, I like to wear a matte lip balm (like my Nuxe Reve de Miel) on top or under it. If you want to wear in accordance to the Korean beauty trend, you can dap a bit on and smudge it only in the inner parts without really defining the lip line.

Formulation:
Liquid goes slightly powdery, something similar to the Giorgio Armani lip maestro lip lacquers, in terms of how it goes a bit powdery.

Wear:
At first, I was blown away by how good they were. How good they suited most skin types, and how vibrant the colors were. But I was let down by how they wore off. They do dry in parts, and cling to any lip scar or scab you might have. You will want to prep your skin first, and keep applying this throughout the day, WITH a lip balm. As long as you do, you're lips will be looking pretty :)

Packaging:
Perfect. I love their logo, it's so fun and cute. Considering they aren't anything luxe, (bought them for $16), their packaging definitely makes them feel like something worth more! Perfect to chuck into your handbag as well :)

Shades:
I have to say that I love the shade "Bumble Gum" the most! It's that true purple violet shade that when you take pictures, it looks really pretty. I've been looking for a shade like this, and I've got a few lipsticks that are similar shades as to this one- but this one is really right on the mark.
Then, I've got two orange shades. One is super uber bright shade called "Fever", and rightfully so. The other is a more yellow-toned, more true orange shade called "xxOrange". Both are hot for summer!
I've got one coral nude that I love and instagrammed before. It's the shade "bon bon", and it's their best-selling shade.
Then finally, a great hot pink- "Pink Boom" is pretty amazing as well!

**

These will last you so long because they are so pigmented. All you need is a little! Google for wholesalers who stock these up and can ship to the US. I got mine on www.honestskin.com :)

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Part #2. Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencil

Before further ado, Charlotte Tilbury makeup is now available to the US. So damn exciting! This product can be found here: http://www.charlottetilbury.com/colour-chameleon-smoky-emerald.html

image from their website!

I bought this Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencil back in December when I was in London. Since then, I thought long and hard about how to wear this and actually look good. It's not a new kind of beauty product. It's one of the eyeshadow chubby pencils that are creamy and glides over the lid. You get an instantly smokey look by smudging it after gliding it on the lids. I'm assuming for those with really deep sockets, this could be the best thing ever. Just rub it carelessly, take a buffing brush (something like MAC 217) and smoke it out. But for the less socketed people (me), you could end looking a bit goth if you spread this out too much.

The color I chose was the shade "Smokey Emerald". It was gorgeous, and I have a thing for green eye makeup. It was the first thing I picked up, and after swatching it, I knew it was something I was going to get.

Totally smooth, creamy, and the color? INTENSITY. A dark emerald green with golden specks, that are super deep. It looks two-dimensional. I absolutely love the shade. And once you smudge it, it won't budge.

So, how do I wear this? I haven't been brave enough to rub it intensely all over my lid. But I have attempted to just dab it right above my eyelash line and smudge it upward from there. You can see the slight green when I open my eyes in the picture below:

It's 19 pounds, so around 30-40 dollars in the US? Not bad, considering how expensive luxe brands are! And Charlotte Tilbury's entire range is uber luxe and I feel so stylish when I use her makeup!

DIY: How to Make the Best Virgin Mojito

For all you non-drinkers, this DIY drink is for you. After trying an awesome virgin mojito when in London, I thought I'd make it my job to make it myself at home. It's the perfect spring/summer drink, and a great way to serve your friends and family who are over! It's my favorite kind of mock-tail and I hope you enjoy it too!

I am no chef, let alone even being good in the kitchen so bear with me if my directions are ambiguous. Here's what you'll need:
  • Ginger ale
  • Pellegrino or any kind of Sparkling Water(optional/ you can use all ginger ale, but I like to dilute the ale with the sparking water)
  • Lime Juice (I used the Italian Volcano Organic Lime Juice)
  • Limes
  • Mint leaves
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • ICE.
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Apple Juice (optional)

Let me tell you how I like my drink. FULL OF MINTS, and tasting more than just sweet or sour. I like a bit of depth so I did use pretty much all the ingredients I stated above.

Here's what I did:

  • Chop up the mint leaves. I used about one whole batch of them.
  • Cut the limes into decent sizes. Make sure you wash them first since they'll be soaking in your drink the whole time!

  • Make the juice:
    • In one serving cup size, I put in 1/4 cup of lime juice.
    • Then, I added 1/2 cup of ginger ale.
    • Added just a sip of apple juice (apple soda). Literally, a sip. Nothing too much!
    • Topped it with pelligrino to the top.
    • Add ice accordingly. (I didn't have ice, so I made sure to make all my drinks really cold before using them).
  • Add the mint leaves. More the better.
  • Squeeze in some fresh lime, then just drop them into the drink.
  • MIX! Let the mint really get soaked with the rest of the drink.
  • Pour more ice (if you want)
  • THEN, VOILA YOU ARE DONE :)
  • You've got yourself a fresh, icey, minty, refreshing sweet tarty VIRGIN MOJITO :)

Yum yum! It is so refreshing, I love it. What I did was, make just the juice and constantly added it to my drink as I finished it. I think it's easy to get creative with it, no set rules!

Tell me if you've ever made a mock-tail before, and what drinks you recommend. If you do try this virgin mojito, send me a link so I can take a look! I love to see it :)

The Best of PRIMERS.

I wear primers all four seasons, but if you're going to choose only two season when you're going to wear primers it might as well be spring and summer. Hotter months mean more sweat, more oil, and perhaps leading to more makeup wearing off throughout the day.

I've picked the best of all primers, the ones that really do the job of keep your makeup looking intact and fresh as long as your skin will hold. I've got two for the face, and one for the eyes.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Oil-Free Primer (SPF15)
Self-explanatory product. It is what it says it is. This stuff is truly amazing, and worth the splurge. I began with a sample, moved on to the $18 smaller bottle. Now, I've gone through a big 1oz. bottle and moved into a JUMBO sized 2oz. It's that good. This white almost "slippery" substance somehow keeps your makeup on the whole day. I'm not going to say it helps the skin stay necessarily matte the whole time, but even when you put your skin of oil (by either oil-blotting paper or powder), this primer will help your makeup stay on even while you pat the oil off your face. It keeps your skin looking velvety.

This Works "In Transit Camera Closeup"
I'm obsessed with this brand, but that aside. This is some miracle product. It promises a 3-1 job: moisturizer, mask, and primer. It's meant to help your skin stay pampered during flights when your skin can get patchy and dry, so much that even when you land and you're "papped" you still look camera-ready good.
We may not all be paparazzi-ed but there's nothing bad about trying to look camera-ready all the time. It's been awhile since I've had this product, but it's not been recently that I've really tried it out for days on end. This is very different from the Hourglass primer mentioned above in that this product is very dewy and tightening. After my skincare, I take about two pumps of this product and spread it evenly and gently all over my face. I make sure not to rub this in (don't rub primers into the skin, let them set on the skin!). Once you put it all over, you'll feel your skin feeling hydrated, dewy, and also tight.
Once you feel that the primer has been completely absorbed, then that's when you can move on to your foundation. Make sure you wait until the product has been absorbed, so that you don't feel any wetness on your skin. It should be soft and velvety.
This has helped my skin look very fresh throughout the day. I also love using this when my skin is especially tired-looking and feeling dehydrated. This is a skincare-type primer, so for those with problem skin, this may be a goodie!

NARS Eyeshadow Primer
I've blogged about this amazing product before as well. I haven't tried too many eyeshadows, but when I compare this eye primer with the famous Urban Decay eye potion, the NARS beats the eye potion by a million miles.
Much like the Hourglass primer, this also feels velvety and a bit "slippery". How these things work like magic is something of another story. You take a pea-size amount of product and dab in on each eyelid. Then you spread it evenly and gently all over the lid. Wait maybe three seconds and apply your eye makeup (you can wait even longer, doesn't matter).
I swear by this thing. Your eyeshadows will not oxidize, changing colors and making them dull. It won't crease, it won't melt, and it just won't budge. I recommend this to everyone, even if they don't have super oily lids because it'll help the vibrancy of your eyeshadows!

****
I'm still a bit clueless as how these products help makeup last. I know they somehow attach your makeup to the primer, and primer somehow attaches to your skin a certain way-- but as to how that works is beyond me. What I do know is that even if the product looks "slippery", it'll help your makeup from slipping off your face.

DISCOVERY PRODUCT #6. Missha Double Enzyme Oxygen Mask

Missha has been hitting it home with the last few products I've been trying out. A recent skincare favorite is this Double Enzyme Oxygen Mask that has helped soothe and brighten my skin. This is part of their "Super Aqua" range, which is full of products that bring back moisture to the skin. This particular mask is pretty awesome.

This mask contains enzyme to help purify the skin with "O2 Carrier Complex and enzymes". There's no scientist in me, so I couldn't explain to you how this exactly works -- but I've tried "oxygen masks" before, and they are amazing in bringing the skin alive. Makes sense, considering how important this gas is to our system... ha!

Well, the skin knows it too. What's really cool about this mask is that when you open it up, it has these color particles that you are supposed to gently rub into your skin until it dissolves. But also, there are bubbles and foams on the outer surface of the pot! I'm thinking that's the enzymes' doing, and the whole oxygen carrier thing.

It feels relaxing when you spread this all over your skin, after a nicely cleansed wash. I leave it on for about twenty minutes and then wash it off. It is a great skin brightener! I usually do a detox mask before this one (on days when I'm really out to pamper my skin), with something like the Mario Badescu "Drying Mask" (read here). And once I've well detoxed my skin, I go for a mask like this Super Aqua Double Enzyme Oxygen Mask to bring the right moisture back into the skin.

P.S. It smells awesome too. You can find it online here.

First Impressions of Sephora VIB Beauty Haul

I recently received my Sephora VIB package, stuffed with a few goodies that I purchased during their 15% sale. It's not a lot, but it's products I've been eyeing for quite some time now. As you saw with my wishlist, it is pretty much exact what I said I'd get. I've had a few days to try them all out, so I'm going to give you a first impressions of these products!

Hourglass Cosmetics Blush
The first one up, and my favorite so far is the Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Blush in Radiant Magenta. I've heard a lot about them, and after contemplating about it some more, I thought it'd be a good time to get it during the sale season. The shade Radiant Magenta was eye-catching from the start. I know it wasn't one of the more popular ones (Dim Infusion) but the bright pink and golden peachy swirl looked captivating!

Hourglass Cosmetics Eye-brow Sculpting Pencil
Another impressive product by the same brand is their eyebrow sculpting pencil. It has two sides, one with the eyebrow spatchela /brush and the other with the eyebrow pencil. I got the shade "arch" was is their medium shade (they only have 3 shades). I love the shade because it is on the gray side rather than orange or yellow-brown. It's very waxy so it will stay on so much longer than the creamier types. I love the packaging!

Bumble and Bumble City Swept Hair Spray
It promises a "lived-in, street-styled look" with separation and sheen. I love this thing! Because I get my hair chemically-straightened and I have a lot of layers in my hair, the day I wash my hair I hate the way the layers look dead. I usually put my hair right into a bun (with a pencil) so that after a few hours I get a naturally "tousled" look. But this hair spray makes it so much easier. They say to spray it on dry hair, as you lift it up and let them fall through mist. It gives hold without tangling your hair, which I found the Bumble and Bumble Surf spray does.

Hourglass Cosmetics Mineral Veil Primer
This is a cult fave of mine, and something I've repurchased over and over again. I've been wanting this product in a different packaging and voila! They came out with a JUMBO size that comes in a TUBE. *YES* The glass bottle makes it so hard to use up all the products inside, but this tube, you can squeeze it out.
In terms of how much I love the product, you can check it out here.

Buxom Lip Cream in "Sophia"
I used 100 points to add this to my basket. It has a tingling effect that plumps your lips. I found that the color is not obvious, so I like to layer on top of a lipstick. I definitely feel the tingling sensation. Unfortunately, I don't think it plumps my lips that much. I mean, I'm not expecting injection-effect, but I didn't see much difference considering how uncomfortable the tingling effect was.

REVIEW: Mario Badescu's Drying Products

Drying for the right reasons, I would say. These "drying" products from Mario Badescu are pretty amazing for people who suffer from congested, acne-prone, oily-combination skin. At first, I was wary of this range. I am against using acne products, even though I have acne-prone skin. I have found that using "strong" products broke me out more.

Drying Cream
But these were very different. First off, I want to talk about the Drying Cream which I have loved the most out of this range. I apply it only at night, and after my general skincare routine. It is the last step in my night-time skincare routine, and this is because the consistency of the cream is really thick. Also, if you put it on, it says you have to rub it into your skin until the whiteness of the cream goes invisible. I find that the "whiteness" doesn't completely go invisible, but you should rub it gently into your skin until it somewhat fades enough.

What I love about this cream is that it does some kind of magnetic oil-pulling. I used to have little tiny oil bumps(?) all along my chin. You couldn't see it indoors, but when I took HD pictures, or when I was outside under a strong sunlight, you could see the bumps. After using this, I found that it literally sucked them dry. (ew?) It's almost like an overnight mask.

After using this cream overnight, I find that my skin is just so much softer and smoother, which I found amazing since I thought it'd dry my skin the wrong way! When you wash your face the next morning, you will find that when you wet your skin, the cream washes off. As it washes off, it feels like it took away the excess of oil-buildup.

Drying Mask
This is my new "detox" mask. I used to go crazy over the Origins Charcoal Detox mask, and though I still love it, this new Drying Mask has been doing wonders! Like the Drying Cream, this mask does a magnetic pull of unnecessary oil buildups. The consistency is so weird, and it smells horrible. But the effects are amazing! It feels like rubber, and you almost have to break it to scoop it out and put it on your face. It feels like rubber and smells like rubber too.

But if you can bear the smell of rubber, I highly recommend this. I find that it wipes my face completely clean of any buildup. I leave it on for about 20 minutes, and when I wash it off, it seriously leaves my skin "squeaky clean".

Do make sure that after you do this mask, you follow up with a good and gently toner, and a great hydrating moisturizer. You don't want to just leave your skin clean without replenishing it with the right nutrients!

Drying Lotion
This is probably the most well-known and loved product from this line. I, however, am not a big fan of this one. It is one of their spot treatments. I never was one to fair well with spot treatments, from any brand. Though I like this after a pimple pop(?), to lay this potion over, I don't find that it does anything spectacularly effective.

You are never to mix this. What you do is, take a cotton bud (q-tip), and dip it all the way in until it reaches the sulfur. Then you slowly pull it back out. Then you dab that pink liquid on your pimples or spots. It is meant to bring those down and get rid of them. I never found this to get rid of my pimples, though it did help sometimes to bring them down.

If you were one to avoid acne products but you still suffer from acne, do give these a go! They are wonderful and they really do the job. As long as you use moisturizing and hydrating products with them, I think they would do wonders.

Again, Mario Badescu has done right. You can read more up on my love for Mario Badescu products here.

Wishlist #5. SEPHORA VIB

I just received an early access Sephora VIB Sale that will begin on April 3rd,  and end on April 11th. VIB members are given a 15% discount, and you know what that means. A lot of things you've been eyeing going out of sale. So, I decided to get an early start and make a small list of products I know I will be buying. After creating this little list, I realized most of them were from Hourglass Cosmetics.

This wish list is obviously not exhaustive. I've had to cut things down to the ones I really plan on getting. With makeup, is there ever an end anyway?

I've tried a few Bumble and Bumble products, but nothing has really triggered me to get them as much as this one: their CitySwept Finish spray that is supposed to give you that tousled, natural hair. With my recent cut, I've been needing movement with all my layers.

Besides that one hair product, the rest are Hourglass Cosmetics products. The first one is the ridiculously raved Ambient light blush. I seriously don't know what color to choose, but for now, it is the Radiant Magenta. Another product I've been eyeing so long was their Sculpting Eyebrow. Every since I started messing around with my eyebrows, it has required me to take care of them. *Should've left them natural*. Finally, the last product is a product that has been a forever repurchase. It's their Mineral Veil Primer. Instead of what I usually get, the 1oz. size, this time I'm going for their JUMBO seize of 2oz. Sounds like the better deal, especially with that packaging! I personally don't like the glass packaging. So excited to get my hands on this one :)

What are some of the things you're excited to get this VIB sale season? xx Recommend? :)

Beauty Progress Report #4. Comparing L'Oreal Hair Masks

Long answer short, I have been loving L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm hair mask for the past many months. I recently came to an end of the pot, and need to go repurchase. That's when I realized I never featured this in any of my posts. Well, that's because I hate taking these things out of the shower and taking pictures of them. They can get pretty icky!  So I had put it off, but I thought I shouldn't keep this wonderful product to myself.

Damage-Erasing Balm
The Damage-Erasing Balm promises to erase up to 1 year worth of hair damage in just 1 use! I can't know for sure if it does just that, but I can definitely see how much of this hair mask makes a difference to my hair. One use, and my hair was left ultra silky, soft, and easy to comb through. I do a lot of chemical processing on my hair, and without hair masks, my hair is quite limp!

I use this mask in place of a conditioner, every day. Most people would never do such a thing, but I need a lot of treatment for my hair. I squeeze out all the water out of my hair after shampooing, then take a four-finger scoop of the product and spread it and comb it through my hair. I concentrate a lot of it at the ends, and some parts that are just really damaged. I leave it on as long as I want, even up to seven minutes! Maybe if you had very thin hair, you might not want to do it near the roots or that long.

Ever Riche
In comparison to this mask, the Ever Riche hair mask that I bought when in Paris is a "B" score for me. It acts more as just a conditioner then an intensive hair mask. It helps my hair look soft but it doesn't "repair" my hair ends. I know that when I comb through my hair, and it just tangles! Tangly hair means your hair needs more life. I still have half of this mask left, so I will use it up because it is better than not using any treatment at all, but I will definitely return to my Damage-Erasign Balm. (It smells coconuty-buttery nice!)

What I love about both of them is the amazing price! I can use the L'Oreal Damage-Erasing Balm over my more expensive Phyto hair masks. It's a good 5.0/5.0 stars :) Both are under $10
