YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipsticks

An ode to the YSL lipsticks, but specifically the line called rouge volupté shine. I never understood what the different rouge volupté formulations were, and what each line was. But, I have since been intrigued by their brand and decided to, once and for all, understand what their lipsticks were like! I've currently tried and bought one from each of their line.

But, I have come to the conclusion that the volupté shine are my favorite and what I think are the best. As I mentioned in my Beauty Haul post here, I am someone who loves to wear bold lip colors. Sadly though, I don't find myself in enough situations where I can boldly wear these bold shades. So, I am always looking for lipsticks that can give me the best of both worlds-- romance and reality.

These volupté shine lipsticks are absolutely practical in the sense that they are sheer enough to wear comfortably everyday in all situations, but not sacrificing the color payoff. I have gone for two particular shades, no.19 and no.14.

No.19 is drop-dead perfect. I love purple lipsticks, and this has got to be one of the best. I find most purple lipsticks being either too lavender, too red, too cherry, too dark, or too pastel. I like that saturated kind of purple. I find it so flattering for my skin tone and so many others. One that I found was quite spot-on with getting that exact purple shade was the 3 Concept Eye lip lacquer that I blogged about here.

But that one is really bold, something you can't wear everyday. But this YSL rouge volupté shine in no.19 is both purple and practical at the same time. The color power is also amazing. It's also super creamy and moisturizing.

No.14 is a beautiful coral. It's seems to be a really popular color since I see it constantly sold out. It is pinker than the other corals that they have in the same range (from my memory, no.15 and 16 were pretty orange-corals). It's perfect for that sweet and tarty summer look! :)

And need I say the packaging? It's YSL...

Because the rouge volupté lines all have the same packaging, I've always been confused as to what is what. Some YSL counters even have their lipsticks mixed all together so you can't tell the difference. Some even have the same number for goodness sakes! But now I know, this rouge volupté SHINE line is the best.

COLORS OF MAKEUP #1⎪FUCHSIA & PLUM Lips

I'm going to start a series of posts that kind of bundle up a few of my makeup products into similar color categories. Of course, there are those midi-colors that are hard to put into one definite category, so if you think they overlap a bit, I hope you'll understand!

Today's post is going to be on one of my favorite lipstick colors. Fuchsia+Plum. So, let's begin with a definition of what the color of fuchsia is: a vivid purplish-red color like that of the sepals of a typical fuchsia flower. (Google)

I don't actually think I have an official review of the NARS Funny Face, but in swatches you will see that it is quite similar to the Bobbi Brown Cosmic Raspberry! What attracted me most to the NARS lipstick was that even in the tube, you can detect this really vivid blue undertone, which makes it look more purpley than the Bobbi Brown. Take a look at the pictures down below. You may not see it so much in the swatches, but in the actual picture of the lipstick, you can see the hues I am talking about!

And after all that, I remembered that I had my Clinique Chubby Stick in Pudgy Peony that I also really love!

Please be advised that under different light, these colors can look sometimes darker, redder, purpley, and even pinker. I tried to reflect the different hues it gives off, but because the color fuchsia itself is a mixture of purples and reds, you can imagine how complexly it can develop!

JulepMaven Box Review!

Eden w/ Flash! LOVE this :)

I swear I am not nail polish junkie, but how do I explain the unnecessary amounts of "different shades of" pinks, greens, blues, reds, purples, grays, nudes? I can't. Maybe I am becoming one?

Still yet, I am nowhere near the amount beauty girls have. I can still fix all of my nail polishes into two Glossyboxes :) not that having a lot is anything to be ashamed of! However, you do have to admit that nail polishes aren't a need but a want. Still yet, when I found out that Julep gave their first JulepMaven monthly box for free, I quickly jumped on the wagon!

I've seen Julep nail polishes here and there, spoken about here and there. I was and still am so very content with all my Butter nail polishes, I didn't think I had to try theirs. But hey, you can try their box for free! Then, why not try it out? (I still have to check if I have been subscribed to receive their box monthly, but I don't think so because I only paid for one box's shipping. The actual box was entirely free!)

So, briefly speaking: Julep has a monthly subscription where you pay $20 for a box of 2-3 nail polishes, and a slew of bits and bobs, things like nail polish remover, nail filer, or even hand lotions. You choose. First though, you are recommended a "type" of box. You take this mini-quiz, and you come out either: It girl, Boho glam, Bombshell, or Classic with a Twist. I came out as a Boho glam kind of gal!

But, for the free box, I chose this It-girl box only because this was the only box that sent just all 3 nail polishes. The other boxes had 2 nail polishes and hand lotions, and I didn't need the hand lotion. Besides, the It girl box had one shade that I really really wanted. It's their shade Eden.

Eden is a really, truly vibrant violet. It is a mix of royal blue and purple, and oh boy it is bright! I have been searching for a really bright blue. This seemed to be it. And yes! It really was what I expected! The texture is also a "creme". Anyway, the color is so pretty! I love it. It is also really opaque and one coat is enough. The only downfall is that it dries matte. You HAVE to put on a really shiny topcoat to make it shine. Otherwise, you're going to be stuck with a matte nail polish.

As for the other two shades, though, I'm not really sure. I was excited about the yellow shade Abbie. I thought it'd be this really bright opaque sunshine yellow shade. Unfortunately, it wasn't like Eden but rather very sheer. You need at least three coats of this to get it to look nice. The green shade, Mackenzie, is also nice but something I'm not head over heels about. I still have to swatch it, but just in the case, it's not my favorite.

My box also came with one non-reusable nail polish remover (that did not work well at all!) and a nail filer, which I love!

Overall, though I am so thankful for the free box and finally getting to try their polishes, I don't think I'll subscribe to their monthly service. I'd rather go on their website and just buy the ones that I actually like instead of risking $20 for nail polishes that I may not enjoy. But hey, it might be up your street :)

Plum Up the Cheeks!

Nars Blush in "Sin" is a gorgeous plum shade for the cheeks. Honestly, I haven't tried too many Nars blush. I have no idea why, but it seems to have taken me awhile to actually purchase them. I love all their shades and I definitely want to try all and everything, but the first on my list was this shade in "Sin". I've heard so much about this blush, especially from my all-time favorite beauty guru Tanya Burr. Well, almost everything she does looks absolutely stunning on her. Still, I thought I'd jump in the wagon and give myself a try.

It's been about a month since I bought it but after dropping it (mentioned in my last video), I felt too discouraged to blog about it (for the sake of pretty pictures!). Luckily though, Sephora graciously took it and gave me a brand new one and so now, with much enthusiasm, I introduce to you SIN.

I don't know where Nars gets up with all their provocative names, but Sin definitely sounds mischievous. I was quite surprised at how purple it looks in the picture when swatched on my fingers. On the cheeks, you definitely see the plum but it's also a bit rosy, giving you a subtle flush and contour on the cheek area.

I found that the shade is a bold shade and that you must be careful not to dab your brush too much into the blush. I think a minimal amount goes a long way, and when you put just the right amount, it really makes you look... lovely! I've swatched them in different lights to help you get a gist of the color payoff and the subtleness of several shades within this single pan of color.

I love that the blush is matte. I've been breaking out way too much recently, and I just don't want any shimmer to emphasize those spots. Also, the matte blushes make your cheeks look... gentle. I have a whole list of Nars blushes I want to try now, but I must say, the rave was no lie! This blush is definitely a beautiful shade. I've been wearing it everyday since I bought it.

NOTD: Anybody, Bahama?

Anybody want to go to the Bahamas when the cold is seeping in now? Well, I for sure would like to. But, unfortunately, affordability prevents such fantasies from happening. However, I have here this beautiful autumnal nail polish shade from Essie called "Bahama Mama". Someone tell me why this is called Bahama Mama because when I see this color, I don't really think of the Bahamas. I think of true autumn shade!

This is so beautiful. I saw a bunch of youtubers recommend this color and I was a bit hesitant about it. I remember putting on a dark red shade on my nails and oh goodness, how dreadful it was! My hands looked so old and yuck! But this deep purple is such a flattering color. You can definitely hint the purple although it is intensely deep and dark. The pictures show a lot more purple than you can see in person. But regardless, this is such a pretty shade.

Also, a tip I give myself when applying dark nail polishes is to make sure I cut my nails shorter than usual. I do have fairly long nails, or at least the general shape of it. When I'm wearing nudes, I don't mind a bit of length but when I apply dark shades, I want to keep them short so as to avoid looking too dramatic or witch-like. Of course, purely my preference!

I just love this shade so much! Happy I bought it and definitely another autumn/Fall nail polish for the season!

Gray-Purple Eyeshadows!!! MAC Shale vs. NARS Ondine

I am in love with this new eyeshadow from MAC. It is the moonlight purple-silver that can both be used by itself over your entire lid, at the inner or outer corners of your eyes. (Inner meaning the inner part of the shading chrome). I haven't heard this shade "Shale" being talked about much, but in my search for any kind of MAC eyeshadow, I came in contemplation with "Hoodwinked" and this one. I seemed to have owned way too many gold/brown shades, so I went for this shade, that I only had one that was slightly similar to this one (which I will get to later)

MAC eyeshadows are one of the best pigmented and textured eyeshadows. They blend so easily with other colors, and they remain its true and prominent color on the eyelid as well as in the box!

I'm comparing this with what seems to be pretty identical color, the NARS "Ondine". I have a swatch of it in the picture below. The left is "Ondine" and the right is "Shale".  

You can see that they are in fact pretty different, more obvious when you see it in life than in pictures. The "Ondine" is a warmer brownier purple, whereas the "Shale" is a gray purple that has its own complexities-- which is what I like about it! I prefer MAC's "Shale" over Nars "Ondine" (which I still love) for several reasons. One, is that though I'm not sure you can tell by pictures, the pigmentation of the MAC was much, much denser than the Nars. I'm not speaking in all of the MAC and NARS eyeshadows, just these two in particular. Also, the color payoff of the MAC is so much prettier on skin than is the shade of Ondine. Texture wise, I have to say, the MAC "Shale" is creamier (it's a satin finish) than the Ondine, which can feel slightly "powdery" in comparison!

What I also love about it is that grayish eyeshadows can end up looking really dusty or "dirty" on the eyelids. There are colors that can be hard to digest, and I was afraid that when swatched it might look pretty, but on my eyelids, it'd look "dirty". But it doesn't! It's just as pretty as a swatch as it is on the eyes! (I don't know if I could speak for all skin tones, but for the light/medium yellow undertones, this'll work!)

It's also very buildable as mentioned before. One sweep across the eyelid can do if you want to use that as a base. But if you want to build it as a shadow at the outer corners, you just have to pack it on and blend it in. The color intensifies. In different lightings, it'll look gray, silver, and/or purple!
