Oh, nothing new. Just another haul from Sephora. That store is a killer I tell you! But I wasn't too crazy. I bought just what I had in mind.
First up, eye cream. I'm reaching the later parts of my twenties. Eye cream was never a thing, but I did put it on once in awhile. But recently, I mean within the past year, I've noticed fine lines?!?! My foundation would just set in these fine lines and I'd rub in my foundation - and then it'd appear again! I really did see dryness under my eyes but I didn't think too much about it, until now.
After cruising around Sephora I settled for Dior's HydraLife Pro-Youth Sorbet Eye Creme. What I loved about it? It felt super hydrating and my skin felt replenished. I'll have to see how I get along with it and whether it helps with the fine lines. I'll keep you notified!
Then, foundation. I've used up my Nars Sheer Glow foundation. I love, love that foundation to pieces. But I was reminded about the Make Up For Ever HD foundation (shade 120) - something I used baaaackkk in the days. I remembered it worked well with my oily skin, but I'll have to see how I get along with this now.
Then, finally a mask. I'll talk about it in my February Favorites - but I am re-wow-ing with the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal mask. I had forgotten how effective this mask is!!! The small little bumps on my face cleared. Now I remember why I went tube after tube of this before.
On that note, I realize my foundation and fragrance posts are the most popular on my blog. I'll try to experiment with more foundations and keep you notified if there are some good ones on the radar. Give me some recommendations of what some of your favorite foundations are!
We are two days into 2015. I spent the holiday season with family and friends, and there was not a day when I didn't wear makeup. And then, there was the food. My holidays were spent eating, eating, and eating some more. Not only did I put on some holiday weight, but I also neglected my skin a little bit. So last night, I took the time to put on some clarifying mask and bring my skin life again.
To be honest, I haven't been using a lot of facial masks. That's because my skincare has been doing a good enough job in keeping the acne at bay. But there are those unavoidable times when the skin really needs that extra help. I've brought out my current favorite masks.
An oldie but goodie is the OriginsClear Improvement Active charcoal mask to clear pores. It is one of those intensive oil-pulling masks that tighten your skin and begs for moisture after you wash the mask off. The great thing is that it really helps clear the pores, but I prefer to use this on days when I know I can keep using it for more than just once a week. Why? Because sometimes, very rarely though, the intensive oil-pulling can cause some pores to turn into pimples if you don't take care of it. It's not that often, but there are times when I don't want the intensive detox for fear that it'll instigate for acne trouble. But the good thing is, if you keep us with it, it'll die them down and turn your skin into a really clear one!
So, for times when I don't want to much detoxing to go on and I just want the entirety of my skin to look better and clearer as a whole, I like to use the GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment. This isn't necessarily to clarify the skin, but I often find that injecting hydration into the skin leaves the skin feeling much more healthier and softer-- and therefore generally clearer and better! This mask has got to be the best out of the GlamGlow masks. I love that you can leave it on for hours on end, and you can either rinse it off, massage it in, or wipe it off. I prefer to rinse it off, but in flights, I'd probably leave it on during the whole flight! It smells of coconuts and it really is a easy effective mask to use because you don't have to rinse it off after ten minutes. #lazygirl
Another easy facial mask is the Dr.Jart+ Pore Medic Pore Purifying Mask. This is serum-infused to tighten and tone the face. When I think of detoxing and clearing out the pores, I don't usually think sheet masks will help. But I was wrong with this. It doesn't suck out the oil out of your face, but it does the clearing and tightening the face thing. You wake up with a more ready set face. How it clears the face is by reducing the excess oil without overdrying, and that's a good thing.
Finally, another soft detox mask is one from ISOI. It is again from their "1st class Bulgarian Rose" line and it is called Oil-Control Pink Pack. I love slathering a thick layer of this on my face. Unlike the Origins detox mask, this ISOI mask is a milder kind. I know I can use this without any concerns that it'll overdry or instigate the undersurface pores to turn into pimples. It truly helps the excess of oil the next day without feeling that your skin is too dry. The consistency feels like Dr. Sebagh's Breakout Powder and Creamand in some sense it does a similar job.
Last night, I actually used the ISOI Oil-Control Pink Pack and this morning, I am feeling all energized and clear and my skin is feeling great! I am slowly recovering from all that holiday eating.
My skin has been horrendous this past month. It's hard to talk about skincare products when my skin goes through so many different stages and cycles. Sometimes the products that have worked wonders at a certain period stops working at a certain time. No clue why, but things like that happen. So, I do have set kinds of products I use for different stages of my skin's craziness!
This month, I have officially fell in love with Michael Todd's Charcoal Detox Deep Pore Gel Cleanser. I went through two tubes of this but never featured it exclusively on my blog because though I liked it, I didn't really love it. That is... until now. I went off this cleanser for a few weeks, months. Then, when my skin was just hopeless I decided to do anything that would detox it and give it clarity.
Two days after I started using this cleanser, all my angry acne completely died down! Crazy, especially when I was doing so much to get my skin clearer. It was as simple as using this cleanser!
What I love about this cleanser is that it is a gel-form, not a foaming kind of cleanser. As you know, foaming cleansers aren't good for your skin. So, this gel cleanser doesn't foam as much but it does lather so well. Foaming and lather is quite different, so if you are worried that you'll need to use a lot to cover your face and wash it, don't worry about that. Really, it lathers up so well.
Also, it does a great job. Makeup and regular cleansing, without making it too parched up. It does erase my makeup, and I use it one more time after to get regular washing done. It does leave skin quite squeaky clean so I make sure to use a great moisturizer after.
In terms of detoxing the skin, I also love the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask. Also, it is a great detoxing tool. Again, I featured this on my blog before so click here and check it out!
But in terms of which really worked miracles, it was definitely the Michael Todd's Charcoal Cleansing Gel.
Here's another series of blogposts you'll see throughout the months. It's where I want to bring light to a special product that hasn't been mentioned a lot (or at all) in the beauty community. The first one up is this Bioderma Hydrabio Masque. I know a lot of you know theBioderma Crealine H20 but honestly, I haven't seen anyone talk about this hydration mask!
I know there has been some hype around the Origins Overnight Drink Up Mask but honestly, that did not suit me at all! I found I could not sleep properly at night because there was this melting liquid thing on my face and I was afraid it'd get on my pillow. Also, my skin didn't "drink it up". Instead, I broke out a little bit the next day.
But in comparison, this mask is everything I was looking for! I have a few essential hydration skin productsI will be talking about in some future post, but honestly, this has to be in that category of really effect hydrating skin products! What you do is put it on for 10 minutes and wipe off the excess with a cotton pad. The formulation feels like a really light lotion that feels water-based.
My skin has been so stressed and dehydrated recently. My skin would be producing a lot of oil, but I had so many dry patches. Also, my makeup throughout the day would end up "cracking" and gosh, it just was not a pleasant sight! I also find that when my skin is dehydrated, whatever acne I am suffering from becomes more aggressive. So, enough was enough, I had to take it within my own hands.
I've been trying this out for months now, using it time to time. Every time I use it, I think how amazing it is. In fact, days when I know my skin is just such a dehydrated thing, I pop a massive amount of this on my face and seriously, within a minute it is all gone. My skin loves this thing! And so, when they say "wipe off the excess" I find that I don't have any excess left...
They recommend that for the best use, use it consecutively for 10 days. I haven't had the time to do it each night for 10 days, but I know it is just great for people with really dehydrated skin and who want something that won't be too much that it'd break them out. This doesn't even feel icky or sticky when applied and even after! After you wipe it off, you find that your skin feels almost wet and supple! I love it.
And then of course, with this kind of hydration, you find that your makeup just glides the next day! When I use this at night, I sometimes finish it off with a lotion after I wipe the mask off. But, I think just by itself is enough too!

Life has been pretty busy. But, I made time to feature some of my current favorites. I tried to keep them away from the usually featured products, but there are some products that have been able to weasel themselves into this month's favorites!

Ideally, I would like to do a monthly favorites. But I know for sure that I can't commit to scheduling a favorites post every month. So, until I think of a name/title to call these series of random-recently-loving posts featuring just that, I'll just call it my "Current Favorites". Bland, boring, but for sure, the products I mention won't be! :)
First off, skincare. These two are a must. I do have other products I would have liked to mention, but nothing stood out as much as these two. It's actually hard to say that my skin improved because of only these two products. It is probably the combination and routine of all that I use day and night, which you can probably get a glimpse of it here in this blogpost. Anyway, still moving on with just two to mention- both are Origins products, which I love. I've tried only a few from their range, but each time, I've been way more than impressed! At a time when even the facial specialists kind of felt irritated that they couldn't get my skin to improve fast and well enough, I thought I had to take matters into my own hands and figure out what to do. I wasn't rejuvenating, and none of the serums I was using was working. Why? Because I probably had a surface layer of dead skin that no matter how much I tried to exfoliate, wouldn't cut it.
So my first goal was: DETOX. I bought this Origins Active Charcoal Mask aka "Clear Improvements". I was hesitant to try this because my skin is sensitive and the last time I tried a charcoal mask was way back when I found some masks can strip my skin and all. But, I knew I needed to detox. And boy, am I happy I tried this out! One day, best results. So, though it says use once a week ("or as needed") I find that I cannot go a day without using this. I'm not sure if that does bad things to the skin, but for sure, it's been helping me. LOADS.
Second skincare item is the Origins Make a Difference Plus + Treatment. Best for combination skin I hear. It's the perfect combo for the mask because once I have stripped the dead dull icky layer off my skin, I tone it and then put on this hydrating treatment that kind of sorts out my skin and keeps it really soft and supple throughout the day and night. I'm not sure how it works, but it's working miracles on me so need I say more? :)
As for makeup, I've got a few! Chanel Eyeshadow Stylo in "Moon River" and "Pink Lagoon"- part of their Summer Collection 2013. I'm not a huge follower of seasonal collections, but I happened to be there when it first launched and I really liked it. That like grew to a good healthy respect for these eyeshadows! Another things pertaining to the eyes is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind/ Eraser for Dark Circles. I am loving this thing! I have the 2nd lightest shade and I love to just chuck this in my bag and apply it throughout the day. Review of this here.
MAC Cosmetics always has something nice to snatch up. I've been obsessed with two certain lipsticks, both in the orange family. One is actually part of the Orange Collection 2013 from not too long ago! It's the shade "Tangerine Dream" which is a dreamy, true pastel orange. It gives the illusion that you are some pastry goddess. The other orange is the shade "Saigon Summer". Looks really vibrant but it's actually pretty vividly-natural. Meaning, it's nothing like a neon shade but a really pretty wearable, yet different color!
Another MAC item is their pressed pigment in "Beaming". One of my most read posts here on my blog has been the review of my pressed pigment in the shade "Day Gleam". Unfortunately, my sister stole it and just won't return it! So, I went for a shade a tad darker and actually more suitable for my skin. The sparkle gives a wet look on the eyelids, and it's simple flattering.
Blush. Summer is about blushes, as well as lipsticks. The blush I find myself gravitating towards every single summer is the Benefit "Coralista". Amazing shade. Wonderful finish. Love the gleam and shine. It's perfect. Wore it every day this summer. Strangely, I didn't even reach for it all winter and spring. But once that heat wave began, there I was putting this without end! It's a must-have. Really...
Let's talk Fragrance. You know by know, if you ever read my blog, that I am a fragrance-philia. What is that you say? Well, a word I made up meaning: fragrance-lover. I recently did a whole series of my Perfume Collection video/posts. It went down really well :) Anyway, one of the featured fragrance was the Jo Malone "Lemon Tart". Sharp citrus/lemon zest with a hint of sweetness that makes it a perfect summer scent. I am not that fond (yet) of the beach-scent for the summer. For summer, I go for something zesty, fruity, sharp, and fresh. I mean, if you live in NY, you'll know that humidity sucks and I don't know about you, but I hate to have a scent weigh me down in the heat!
Talking about heat. Whew. Who here has bangs? Because I do, and when it's hot out and you've got oily skin, bangs aren't going to last "fresh-looking" all day long. I end up usually carrying a bobby-pin around and pinning up my bangs by the 8th hour or something. But hey, I found this thing called dry shampoos something I'm sure everyone but me uses! I use the Batiste dry shampoos and this is the first and only one I've tried. So, I can't say it's the best one on the market. But it's cheap. It smells cute. And it does the job so darn well. I can have my bangs down and lookin' fresh all day long. That's something right there. Yep.
Another necessity for the summer heat is a good primer. A fool-proof primer. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer does just that. It's a heft price and so I began with the smaller bottle so I could be sure it's as good as the reviews say it is. Indeed. Right after I used even to the last pump and scrap of that small bottle, I went and got the big chunky one. I love it, but for sure I don't love the price! ($52)
Though I live in NY, I'm also around AC's a lot. I also travel. That means I may go to places that are actually parched dry. That happened recently. But though my skin, nails, and lips were starting to chap I did not worry. Why you ask? Well, because I had my new must-have-for-handbag Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream with me. Best for lips and cuticles. This all/multi-purpose cream is divine.
Last for the beauty things: Jurlique Hand Cream. I have the scent in Jasmine. Love it. A bit thick and luxurious, but it will definitely seep in give your hands a really lady hands :) I recommend the smaller size though. It's never ending and not as cute as the smaller travel size!
Then for some random bit: FOOD FAVES!? One isn't really a food. It's the Starbucks AfterCoffee Mints. They are mind-blowingly strong. Like, Altoids can't even compare! I love to pop that small mint in and be mind-blown with a minty breath and awakening the senses effect.
The other is a food. An addicting food. If you're going to try this, you better be prepared to get addicted. It's the Popcorners "Kettle" Popped Corn Chips. I'm not going to say much. Just go get it. And try it. Because in both two of the supermarkets I went to yesterday were sold out of this. Just in the flavor I wanted- the "Kettle" one. It's that good.

Introducing my current skincare routine and favorite skincare products! I've realized that the weather/season makes a huge difference on my skin. As the days became more hot and humid, I have been breaking out ever since and all the products I was using before just wasn't cutting it for me. I had to add in a few more products to get the wheel moving! Also, I call this my #1 routine/favorites post even though I have done a Skincare Routine postbefore. It's just I want to keep track starting this time around. This is also probably my summer skincare routine! So here they are:

I am still trying out the Michael Todd's products. I had them for about five months now and I am still undecided about a few. My sister, on the other hand, faints over them. Literally, she can't say enough about it. I've seen it do magic on her skin. I'm still testing it out however, but currently I have been loving their Charcoal Cleanser, Blue Green Algae Toner, and their Charcoal Exfoliator. I'm kind of obsessed with Charcoal:
I am also going to do a Skincare Haul sometime soon, and in there you can see some of the other products I am trying out. But currently, as for masks, I am in love with these two from Origins. One is my 3rd repurchase! It's the "Out of Trouble" Rescue mask. This does wonders! A new addition though is Origins "Clear Improvement" Charcoal Mask. Oh goodness, I need to rave about this. So, this is one of the products that have saved me recently.
To explain, my skin was not rejuvenating and so no matter what good moisturizer or serum was putting on top of my skin, nothing was working! My skin was terribly congested and I needed to flake away my dead skin, exfoliate it, cleanse it, and let it soak in some good moisture. Nothing was working. So, I started looking for something that would suck the goo out of my face. Basically, DETOX my skin. Eventually, I thought of this, and thought I'd give it a try:
I usually stray away from products made for acne skin. I find they are too strong for my uber-sensitive skin and dry me out too much. Hence, I never really knew if I should try this charcoal mask. Still, I knew I really needed help for my congested skin. My pores looked all icky and gross! I thought I'd give this a try. The first day I bought it, I put it on my face after washing it clean in warm water to let my pores open. Then, I left it on for about 20 minutes and then washed my face off.
SO SOFT. The bumps subsided and my skin was so much clearer. It sucked the oil and dirt out of my skin so well! I'm honestly not a great fan of products that take forever to work. I like the instant kinds. The ones that make my skin look better instantly. And honestly, that makes more sense for me. This definitely is one of those products and after trying a sample, I went and got the full size. I have applied this every day since and have not broken out once. Amazing!
After the mask and feeling ever so deeply cleansed, I apply this newly-purchased Origins Make a difference Plus treatment. I bought this because I read up on a lot of good blog-reviews on this product, especially from Essiebutton and GhOstparties on Youtube. My skin was feeling tight, dehydrated and in desperate need of moisture and rejuvenation. I heard that this was a great product for oily/combination skin. This was supposedly great in calming angry and aggressive acne!
Indeed! The next morning, in combination of good cleansing and good treatment, my skin was drastically different. It's been over a week since I used this treatment. My scars are disappearing slowly but noticeably, and my acne has definitely died down! I apply is day and night and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and really hydrated.
It kind of reminded me of this:
I reviewed Atomy's Again Serumhere, and after that review, within a week, I was done with the product. It seemed so hard to get a hold of this item, but I have finally received my second bottle of this! Briefly summing up that review here, I love this because it hydrates my skin better than any serum I have ever tried. Don't know what it is, but my skin as of the past two years has often become really parched and dehydrated. Ugh! It gets to the point where I can't even smile because my skins so tight. No amount of moisturizer can sink in hydration like this serum can! I almost feel like it penetrates so deep into my skin, it even relaxes my facial muscles haha :) Love it and I'm so happy I've finally gotten my hands on this!
Another serum I love is this Mario Badescu Vitamin C serum. I've also reviewed this product singularly in this post. It is amazing for getting rid of scars and blemishes. However, I have found that when my skin is just dead and it needs help rejuvenating because something is just consistently blocking my pores, I don't use this because again-- if you are not cleansing properly and your skin is not prepped to take in great products, you'd just be wasting it by putting these serums on your face. You'll find that it'll just sit on the skin and NOT sink in. So, before I use this serum I make sure that I am exfoliating and cleansed properly (with the masks and whatnot I mentioned above).
Another Mario Badescu product I have been loving is their Special Cucumber Lotion (toner). I use it in complement with the Michael Todd's Blue Green Algae Toner. I think the Blue Green Algae is good on days when my skin seems itchy and in need of antibacterial action! Then, the Special Cucumber is great when I want to heal and refresh my skin! I use them hand-in-hand on days when I need them, accordingly.
Lastly, Elizabeth ArdenEight Hour Cream is lovely! It replaces Vaseline as a much better lasting, truly hydrating, and necessary item for your handbag. I know Tanya Burr on Youtube raves on about this. Ever since her earliest videos, she mentions this as her favorite product.
I can see why! Great for anywhere and everywhere: lips, elbows, dry patches, face, cuticles... name it! It also smells so nice (not floral or sweet or anything, but very simple and a bit herbal). In the summer, when the skin becomes damaged by the sun, I think this will become even more handy. I use it currently though for my cuticles and lips. Love!
2013 is in full-swing, supposedly. I, however, lose all grasp of time between the end of one year and the start of another. It's one party after another, and endless holiday eating that an understanding of time is broken down. Still, 2013 is here and I took some time to think about what I loved most in 2012. It was actually quite easy to pick and choose. Although I absolutely LOVE all that's in my makeup collection, if I had to choose something that stood out most to me the past year, it would have to be these. Judge me all you want as being shallow, but there is a kind of happiness about waking up each day to a selection of beautiful beauty products and pampering yourself with all sorts of things! Happiness can lie in greater things and of course they do, in areas miles and miles deeper. But to find a little joy in the small and shallow things don't make you shallow, nor are they a waste. It's fun and for all that it is, it's good to have fun sometimes!
Okay, so now that my intro is done, let me share with you some of my favorite beauty products! I have to say, honestly, that I love every single product I have. I don't regret a things I buy, besides a very few amount. I love using every single one of them, and it was quite difficult to select only a minimal few. However, I can say without hesitation, that these products are my absolutely favorites! I've repurchased most of them several times, never letting me down after all the uses I got from them.
I think a great deal of these products portray a good deal of the kind of makeup I like to wear. Someday I'd like to have a little tour through my minimal makeup collection and show you all that I have. I speak of each product as if they were my kidlings that need their own special attention in a special way.
From the Cire Trudon candle I've been obsessed with (had I the money, I'd stock up a closet full of them!) to the minuscule Benefit "Bella Bamba" blush sample, let me take you through some of the best beauty products (of course my opinion!) out there.
Take note of the beautiful setting please! Do tell me the whole setup is nice for I'm quite proud of it myself :)
Eye creams can really be a hassle. I've honestly been going on and off with eye creams, but I'm going to boast a little and say it's because I don't have wrinkles under my eye yet! Yet, I do know the saying-- start early because eye creams are to prevent and maintain, not fix the lines! So once you have them, it's not going to magically erase them.
I've tried a bit here and there, often stealing bits from my older sisters. I found the eye products they used to be either too heavy or too tingly for my like. I discovered this one from Origins (the well talked about product) from several of my favorite beauty gurus. What made me really go out and get it was the depuffing agent in this cream!
Unfortunately, after my TMJ surgery about two years ago, my face has been easy to swell, getting puffy around my eyes, cheeks, and even my nose! Horrible, isn't it? Puffiness is one of my worst enemy, and so I thought this would be a great product to try out.
It's a salmony pale pink content that will "refreshen" and "brighten and depuff". I find it right in the middle of heavy and light, and it feels so soothing on the skin. It has an INSTANT, and I mean INSTANT brightening effect under the eye. As for the depuffing, I find this pretty amazing as well.
Hmm, am I using to overflown words here? But I think it deserves its credit! Because I easily swell overnight (face), I wake up to puffy eyes very often. Sure I've tried putting ice on my eyes to depuff, but often times, it's only time that will allow my face to slowly depuff itself during the day. However, when I apply this at night and wake up the next day, my eyes are so awake and puffiness has seriously decreased. I can tell because my eye shape completely changes with how puffed up my eyes are or not! A good non-puffed eye day means a good makeup day for me!
I apply this morning and night, with a decent amount (however much that is) and apply it on the contours around my eyes. Some people apply it directly under the eye (the light skin area) but that's not where it should be applied! It's below that area where the thin skin and the pore skin meet. You also apply it all around even under your outer edge of the brows. That way, the product can actually seep into your pores and do the job. If it's just sitting on top of the thin skin area right under the eye, it'll just sit there all night!
You can see from the swatch how brightening the product is. I've patted it around a bit, leaving some content so you can see where I've blended it, just to show how brightening it is. If you want an eye-awakening eye cream, try this one out! It's seriously worth the hype :)
