DIPTYQUE Scented Oval, for the Car.

I love me some Diptyque and once I got my new car, I thought I'd pamper it up with a Diptyque Scented Oval to hang from the back mirror of my car. I absolutely hate the sickly new car leather smell, and I thought this would be a great way to get rid of it! There are those scented car products that also make me feel sick because they are too strong and smell artificial. But happily, I knew Diptyque would serve me well. I bought the scent Lavande to bring freshness, calm, and flowers to the car!

It's a bit of a luxury thing, but it definitely seems to be a good idea for me. These scented ovals are usually displayed and hung in rooms, but why not cars? The scent is at first quite strong, and it relaxes after awhile, but they are never too sickly at all. And because the scent itself is beautiful, I don't mind it being quite obvious!

The string is slightly long for the car, so you can just tie a knot on top and you'll have a perfect scented oval for your car :)

Polar Vortex inspired NOTD

It's been really chilly here on the east coast. Blame it on the Polar Vortex. Anyway, I thought I'd frost my nails a little bit by matching them to the weather by combining Ciate "chinchilla" and "snow globe". Chinchilla is a gray-bluey color- a frosty muted blue. And snow globe is a beautiful clear polish with fragments of light reflecting paper cut in it. Here are the results:

JOUER. my customized bronzer and blush duo

Jouer is definitely one of those brands that bloggers have played a large role in getting it hyped up and loved by many.

At least that's how I found out about this brand, and began "to play" around with their makeup. If you don't know jouer is French for "to play", and much like their name, they have made their line so that it is fun to play around with their makeup. In the literal sense of playing around with their makeup, you can actually build your own palette by joining the blocks of makeup together. These two products that I have chose to talk about can actually be put together like this:

… which, let me say, is such a good idea! It's easy to carry and fun to customize to whatever you wish.

I did a review on their matte tint moisturizer a few months back. However, I hadn't then formed my opinion on their bronzer and blush, which I also purchased when I purchased their moisturizer. But now that I've really had a play around with it, I thought I'd get on and talk about their makeup.

I chose the Sunshine bronzer to go along with my Blossom blush. What I really want to talk about though is the bronzer. I am still a newbie to the world of bronzers because the idea always scared me a bit. However, I was "bronzing" and "sculpting" up my face even before I knew it when I gravitated towards blushes that were neutral would do both the bronzing and the blushing at the same time- something like Tarte's Exposed blush.

However, now that I am into bronzers, I am experimenting with different shades in different lights in different seasons. There are earthy-dusky brown shades, the red tones, the orange tones, etc., I've loved the Nars Laguna bronzer for sculpting because of its dusky anti-red shade, and I've also loved Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronzer for both sculpting and bronzing. However, this Jouer Sunshine blush was at first, scary to work with. It is by far the orange-est shade of bronzer I own! And I've always heard how you are to stay away from orange-toned bronzers.

However, I surprisingly found that it suited me quite well. The bronzer itself is super pigmented and there are specks of pearls in it that put a slight gleam to your face but nothing too obvious. Because it is super pigmented, I find that even a slight dap of it can go a long way. It does absolutely wonders for my light-medium yellow undertone skin. It gives my cheekbones depth and slims my face, at the same time giving life to a face just whopped in foundation!

It is one of those bronzers that can do the job of a blusher as well. I find that on lazy days, I'll do foundation and then use the Sunshine bronzer to contour and give life to my face! I don't need to use a separate blusher unless I want to.

I find that the shade is just so flattering that I've been gravitating towards this blusher over my Nars Laguna this past month! So, for the scary orangeish shade that it is in the pan, it is quite pretty on the face. I'm not sure how it'll suit the really pale and fair skinned, but on my light-medium, it seems to be perfect!
As for the blush, the shade Blossom is a really simple everyday kind of blush. It has that light baby pink and coral-orange mixture. It definitely is a "light" "fair" shade which makes it easy to work with. However, it definitely is very pigmented that you won't need too much swirling of the brush to get a good amount on the skin! I love it for an everyday flushed look.

I rate this customized bronzer and blush duo and good 5 stars! And you can have a play around with it too. Just build any kind of palette you want, whether they are eyeshadows, blush palette, or whatever! I also love that the packaging is rectangular. It gives something edgy and sleekness to it! Have you tried any Jouer products? Any recommendations? x

NOTD Essie. Armed and Ready

I haven't done a #NOTD post in awhile because I mainly keep that on my Instagram (id: etherealellie). It seems frivolous to post a simple nail-polish post, but I just wanted to do one again this time because I have been in love with this particular nail polish. It is Essie's nail color in "Armed and Ready". The shade is army green but with dimensional mixture of golden sheen. It prettier in person! Strangely, in photos, sometimes it looks a bit blue and a bit gray too. I love how crazy this color is, but looks very neat in person. Most swirly shades look a bit crazy on the nails, but this one is subtle.

I first saw this on Eva Chen's instagram, and instantly wanted to purchase it myself and I'm happy I did! x

THE NAKED 3.

I finally got around to trying the Urban Decay's famous Naked 3 palette out. I have the first and second palette, so I expected just as amazing things from their third palette. I was happy to know the palette would be full of shades never seen before. It's also new in that it is full of these feminine rosy shades. I always loved the idea of trying out rosy pink shades on the eyes, but was scared to. With the hopes that Urban Decay would do it right again, I invested in this beautiful palette.

So, here is what I think about this palette. It definitely is full of beautiful shades, shades that I previously didn't have. They are all creamy, pigmented, and dimensional. Especially the darker shades, when you swatch them you can see pearls of different colors reflecting. The first six shades are much obviously pinky than the next six shades. I personally have been loving the shades: burnout, dust, limit, buzz, and liar. They have been most versatile to work with on an everyday basis.

However, the palette is less "everyday" for me than the other two Naked palettes. Out in the sunlight, the pink really comes through and sometimes I don't feel as comfortable in them as I would if I were wearing the more neutral brown-taupe kinds of shades you find in the other palettes. In general, these shades don't complement my skin tone very well.

I won't say that this palette is necessarily a must-have kind of palette. But if you want a palette that is feminine and new, then this would be a great palette to invest in. You are getting twelve shades, mixed with matte and glitter shades. Like the other Naked palettes, you can play around with the colors so much.

Here are the swatches of the first six shades from the lightest to the right. I love that the lightest shade is a matte shade, so that you can use it on the brow bone without looking too overdone. From left to right: strange, dust, burnout, limit, buzz, and trick.

Here are the next six shades, the darker ones. Names are Nooner, Liar, Factor, Mugshot, Darkside, and Blackheart. Let me just say that the darkest shade looks really beautiful! It is the brown with almost purple-pink specks, mixed with golden specks all in one!

So here are all twelve shades decorating my two forearms! How do you love them? I would personally love to see a neutrals palette from Urban Decay that works with green/emerald shades! I do hope Urban Decay continues with these successful Naked palettes. What do you say UD, how about a green-tone Naked palette for the fourth edition? :)

In general, it's a cool and new palette but if you're looking to save money and wanting a more workable palette, I'd suggest the Naked 1 palette instead. I still haven't really found a way to make the combinations of colors work perfectly for my skin tone.

P A R I S

The last time I went to Paris was back in 2009. I almost teared the moment I stepped land on France, and every landmark I saw, brought me to tears. That is how much I love Paris, France. Finally, after almost five years, I made it back to Paris and still, my heart flutters at every sight. I can see why this city is so loved, even after all these years. Although I didn't tear up all too much, I still felt wonderful being in Paris. I sticked to staying in the touristy areas of Paris because I do find those to be the most beautiful. I'm not Parisian anyway, and I won't pretend not to be a tourist! So, here is my travel-diary. Although it's not all that specific (because it would be too long), I hope you enjoy it. It may be very cliche, the places I went to, but I don't regret it one bit! :)

Because Paris was the second destination in our travel, we had to get to Paris from London. You can read my London travel blogpost here. We went from London to Paris riding the Eurostar, from the St. Pancras station to the Gare du Nord in Paris.

Place stayed: Helzear Apartments (click to redirect to their website)
  • If you're like me, hotels are probably the biggest concern when traveling. I don't look for 5-star hotels, but I do look for hotels where I can feel at ease, comfort, relaxation, and joy in. That is a lot to ask for, isn't it? Much like the Concept London Apartments, where we stayed at in London, we found something similar in Paris, this time called Helzear Apartments. We first reserved the apartment situated in the Marais district, in an apartment called Montorgueil. Unfortunately, it did not suit us at all and very kindly the staff moved us to their newest apartment situated on Champs-Elysees. Though our experience in the first apartment was close to terrible, the newer one we were moved to was so remarkably fine that after the move, travel became quite a joy!
  • Pros: It is situated in the best of the best. It is only a few blocks away from Avenue des Champs-Elysees where there were markets all down the avenue because it was Christmas season. That was a joy to see, and there is just so much to do on Champs-Elysees itself! The hotel is also so close to the George V subway station, where we were able to get to other places. But mostly, we walked because just seeing the streets was in itself a tour! Because of where it is situated, safety was also not a concern, which is important for three girls traveling.
  • The service was also great. The staff were always helpful and ready to assist. They seemed really concerned about their clients, which is always a great plus for any hotels. Also, their apartment was top-notch in: design, equipment, cleanliness, accessibility. For me, an apartment being clean is so important! Luckily, I didn't have to worry about that at all. Also, the kitchen was fully equipped and so was the bathroom.
  • The room we stayed at was a room called Kleber. You'll see a glimpse of the room as you scroll down.
  • I rate this experience a 5.0/5.0

View from our window. It would've been better if we saw the streets, but it wasn't too bad!

Located right on Champs-Elysees, which let me say, was crowded this time of the year. I have learned a lesson not to come to Paris right before Christmas. It was hectic. They had markets set up all down the avenue, which were fun. Also, the streets were full of lights-- vibrant than any I've seen in other cities!

And, of course the one and only Tour Eiffel in every angle. I obviously don't get bored by seeing endless photos of the Tour Eiffel, so I'm hoping none of you would feel bored by that landmark!

The prettiest bridge: Pont Alexandre III. This day, we decided to tour early and you can see the sun rising and the prettiest kind of morning gleam swept all over Paris! On one side of the bridge, you can see the Tour Eiffel. I can't tell you how many times I told myself that I wanted to live in this city as I walked this bridge!

On the way to the Louvre, we were greeted by a beautiful full vivid rainbow. The weather this day was slightly crazy, going from dark clouds that looked like they would reach the ground, to rain, and then to vibrant sunshine! At the end of it though, since we were gifted the rainbow, all was well :)

The Notre Dame in Paris seemed smaller than the one in Strasbourg, but it still took my breath away. Nothing in Paris ever gets old. We went near the evening and didn't bother to tour inside the cathedral since we saw it the last time we were there! In front was a huge christmas tree, beautifully lit and I also made sure to eat crepes from the stores all around it.

Some people say that the Pierre Herme macaroons are more delicious than the ones from Laduree. They were pretty spectacular, although I forgot all the names of these flavors. I have to say though, you'd best know what you're buying. Although the sales lady kindly told us what they were, half of them we couldn't understand. What we got ultimately was a variety of selection, half of which were so good, and half of which were strange…

Also, a friend of my sister's came by with the generous gift of small French pastries. Supposedly the price of these varieties was something like 80 euros! But, since it was a gift, we ate them without feeling too guilty about having them. They were……. [you can fill in the sentence].

Then, there was Laduree. Yes, I know we have them in New York too, but there is something about the original Laduree situated on Champs-Elysees

Another hotspot cafe is the Cafe de Flore that people always Instagram when they are there. While, list on that cliche because I did the same! I loved it because it looked like that perfect French cafe one would dream about. I recommend their cappuccino as well as their breakfast pastries, however if you are a tourist from the States, try not to spend too much on actual breakfast meals or lunch meals like salads, soups, or croque-mosieurs because they didn't taste all that great! Just have a coffee and munch on some croissants in the morning, and you'll feel full just from plundering in the Parisian atmosphere!

Another cafe I dragged my sisters to was Angelina. Ugh, I still regret being unable to sit inside and have their chocolat chaud! It looked so cozy and beautiful inside, and I've heard a great many things about their hot drinks. But, we were on a budget cut and you do pay less if you get the pastries to-go. So, I picked up a few and felt pretty excited about getting to the hotel and devouring them! They looked so delicious, and so instagrammable
mille feuille, sweet potato cupcake/cake, eclair

Finally, the last cafe I want to recommend is Carette right by the Tour Eiffel in a place called Trocadero. It was again, close to where we were and we couldn't be more thankful than we were! We came here twice, lastly right before we left to catch our flight back home. Their sandwiches are delicious, especially their salmon one! Also, their french onion soup was the best we've tried in all the places we went to. I highly recommend them. Also, you can't disregard the beauty of their interior and oh, their pastries….

Shopping: I went to the two big department stores in Paris- Lafayette and Bon Marche. I was also fortunate enough to be gifted a Louis Vuitton bag. Finally, the other shopping I did was makeup and skincare- from stores MONOPRIX and CityPharma on Rue du Four.

It's been a month since I got back from Paris, and it is only now that I found time to organize the pictures and post! There was actually more than a thousand photos to choose from, but I wanted to stick to photos that were location-based and pretty enough to post on my blog! I hope you enjoyed this really picture-heavy blogpost.

But this is NOT THE END! My next lifestyle post will be my trip to Strasbourg. Keep tuned for that :)
