Random Drugstore Haul

I never thought of buying makeup products at any drugstores. I've always thought, I'd save my money and buy the good quality luxury items. And, I always have. Until recently, I've been watching a lot of Youtube beauty bloggers and the good things they say about some of them have really gotten me to consider purchasing and trying out some of their products... without pressure!

One of the most talked about drugstore brand is Revlon. I hear it so much, people raving about their lipsticks and other products. Of course there is the cost of cheap packaging and not the same content as high-end products out there-- but the point is, considering the price, it's a good deal.

So, basically no one has to go out of their ways to purposely get something "cheap". But if you're on a budget, it really doesn't hurt to try!

On my usual stocking of cotton pads and wax, I decided to give some beauty/makeup products a go. Unlike Sephora or other beauty counters, you can't try the products at the store. It's more like you like what you see, you buy it. If you like it, that's good. If not, oh well... you missed out on five dollars.

I bought two lipsticks from Revlon. "Gentlemen prefer Pink" (no. 450) and "Softsilver Rose" (no. 430). I often find that when you are buying cheaper lipsticks, it's good to be safe. I feel buying neutral everyday colors will give you the most payback with these lipsticks. Sometimes going a bit exotic on the colors might prove the lack of quality these products may have.

That being said, these two colors were very pretty. The 450 is a really pretty satin-finish pick. The 430 is a bit more red but very wearable. It's just brightens the lips with a soft pink-red, and it also has a satin like finish. They are decently pigments and are quite creamy so it won't necessarily dry out your lips. I do find that after awhile, if you were to rub your lips a little, your skin might start peeling. So not entirely hydrating or good for the lips, but I think you get what you get.

Next, I bought a Rimmel lipsticks. Now, I never even heard of Rimmel until my obsession with UK beauty bloggers. Then I started thinking, hey maybe I'd try if I ever found one around me. Well, I did! Packaging was pretty, and I especially bought the one from the line that was collaborated with Kate Moss. Supposedly, it's her "shades", the ones that would best represent her.

Loved the cute packaging and the colors were decent. There was about five shades. I got the shade 08, and it's a mauve brown. It's actually browner than I thought it would be, and I'm not sure I could pull it off. But with the right kind of makeup, I think it'll be a chic lip color to wear. It does have a slightly model-esque feel to the mauve lipstick!

Then I went and picked up two Essie nail polishes. I prefer buying mine on Amazon as I find them so much cheaper. It's literally $3 online! But I wanted to try them out asap, and I've realized that the cost of buying it so cheap online is that sometimes, they can be sending the ones from the older edition where the applicator isn't so great as the ones that have come out now. So, I thought-- why not?

I got "Cute as a Button" and "Fiji". Fiji seems to be some kind of hype and I thought I'd give it a try. I am currently wearing "Neo Whimsical" which I find to give that really pretty bridal pink color. But it does have a purple pastel undertone, unlike the Fiji which is a white-based pink. It is quite pretty. "Cute as a Button" is a bright neon pink/purple. I'm horrible at describing this, but one of my favorite Youtubers, Tanya Burr, wore this color several times in her video. And I loved it so much and thought it was pretty cute!

I ran out of some top coats and I find the Sally Hansen dual action really works best and has the best applicator. So, I got that.

And other miscellaneous things! But I thought I'd share :)

Review⎪Blendercleanser for Makeup Brushes

For the May 2012 "Gossip Girl" Special Birchbox, I received a blendercleanser deluxe sample in my box. I wasn't all too pleased with the box, hence I unsubscribed. But for what I paid, I thought I'd give each product a try. I recently tried the blendercleanser makeup brush/sponge cleanser to clean my makeup brushes. I know this product was specially made for their beautyblender makeup sponges, but since I don't own any and they say it's good for makeup brushes as well, I thought I'd give it a go.

I usually use Sephora's brush shampoos to clean my makeup, and I was never entirely happy with the results. But I simply thought it was just "how things were". However, when I tried cleaning my brushes with this new product a few days, I realized it wasn't "how things were" but simply the fault of the product I was using!

This brush shampoo seriously does the job so well! It's also lightly scented so it does give a bit of treatment to the entire process. I'm thinking their website would a better job in describing what the product is like so here it is:
Blendercleanser is a lightly lavender-scented cleanser that’s free of dyes and skin irritants. It’s soothing soy-based, low-suds formula breaks down rapidly, making it earth-friendly and fun to use. Soy has the added benefit of being one of nature’s finest moisturizers, so by all means, clean up with class and do it often.
I've loved how quickly the makeup is removed from the brushes, and how thoroughly it does the job! I used to dread cleaning my brushes because it would take about 30 rinses to get the soap and content out. This is quick and easy, and even after the cleaning-- I can safely say that the brushes are non-irritant and you don't have to worry about the product of the cleanser potentially irritating the skin! (P.S. I have sensitive skin!)

Loved it so much, I went and got the full size... I think... (180ml) and will use this to clean all my makeup brushes now on!

Estēe Lauder Bronze Sands Eye Palette Review

I had been eyeing Estēe Lauder's Pure Color Five Gelée Powder Eyeshadow in Bronze Sands ($45), ever since it was mentioned by Anna, also known as "Vivianmakeup" and Lisa Eldridge on their videos and blogs. It looked like the perfect shades for a bronze summer look. What I also drew me to this "LIMITED EDITION" product was the very fine and deliciously printed patterns on the shadows.

This is also supposed to be a revolutionary technology of makeup that gives a highly metallic wet look. You can, like most eye shadows, apply it dry or wet for a more dramatic look.

I have seen worn these shades every single day! It brightens up your eyes, and I like to use the green on the lower eyelids to brighten up my complexion. They blend beautifully and smooth on your eyelids in full pigments and like a cream or gel.

I also love Estee Lauder's packaging. It's sleek and chic, a beaut when placed on your topshelf!

I searched for this product in four different department stores and they were all sold out. I eventually ordered it online on Estee Lauder's own website. I loved their services. They provide one or two 7-day or 10-day sample(s) of your choice with free shipping and return!

Butter London⎪Favorite Nude

Butter London's nail polishes are simply wonderful. The brush is great, the colors are gorgeous, and the polish stays on for over a week without losing their shine! Of the few I have, I have a continual obsession over "Tea with the Queen".

It's a pinky-browny nude that actually looks different in different lights. Under flash it looks really pale-pink nude, in the dark its mauve-y, and on regular daylights it's just a pastel nude! I love it and it's my favorite nude nail polish I go back to over and over again :)

Because I get lazy, I rarely use a topcoat when I apply Butter nail polishes. Instead, for a quicker dry I use OPI's "Quick Dry Spray" and it's done.

Attempting The Smokey Eye

ByTerry Intense Liquid Eyeliner Precise Tattoo

The ByTerry Intense Liquid Eyeliner Precise Tattoo ($43)

This does not do a good job in drawing on the eyes after you apply eyeshadow. It comes out dark when applied to clean skin, but I don't know about you, but I apply eyeliner after I do my eyeshadows. I found that this eyeliner does not draw well after eyeshadows!

This was a no-no!

NUXE Rève de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm

I am obsessed. The hype around NUXE Rève de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm was no lie! It is such a hydrating, soothing, and nourishing lip balm.

About a month before I began to see the hype around this product in the beauty blog community. I love it that it is matte and it can handle the coldest winter winds. This is quite good for times when you want to apply a lip balm under or on top of a lipstick that is matte and you want to keep that matte texture. This also smells delightful!

Setting Sprays

It’s impossible for my makeup to last all day. The last time I remember my makeup lasting all day in perfect condition was when I used to take Accutane. I remember I would sleep in my makeup and wake up with zero oil and perfectly maintained makeup! What a dream…

Anyway, now that I’ve woken up from the dream it was time I found a way to maintain my makeup. Fortunately, I don’t have many cases of staying out of house for say 12 hours plus. Still, it’d be nice to have my makeup on well for say 8 hours without having to do touchups.

Recently, I decided to try the setting sprays from Skindinavia and Urban Decay. From Skindinavia I bought the No More Shine Makeup Finish” Oily Skin Formula which says to claim up to 16 hours. From Urban Decay, I have the All Nighter which also claims to hold up to 16 hours.

For best results they suggest you spray before makeup and after makeup.

I personally love Skindinavia’s setting spray before makeup because it truly preps my skin to soak in my makeup fully and completely. I find with the setting spray, I don’t need to use concealers and in fact, less foundation amount. That’s how well the spray soaks the makeup. I also find that it tightens pores and closes them up (visually) so that when you take pictures, you have a fine film over skin with no visible pores.

Now the thing is, Urban Decay and Skindinavia actually worked together for the “All Nighter” spray so you can say that they are equally effective. Somehow, every time I use the original Skindinavia I see more effects of its endurance than with Urban Decay! I can’t say though that they last anything up to 16 hours. I find that I have to touch up around the 5 hour mark. I know, so soon… But what I really noticed was that I definitely have to touch up much less and even after a long day and I come home, I still look intact. Usually, I’m just a mess and even with touchups, I don’t look fresh! (What I mean by touchup though is that I have to use an oil paper to clean the oil off my face! Actual touchups where I take out my powder and redap, is more along the 8 hour mark!)

Also, because the setting spray provides a film and oil resistant layer over skin, you can feel it tightening your skin as well. So you don’t feel icky, especially in the summer with makeup you can feel like the sun is literally melting your skin. Because your skin feels prepped and tight, you find yourself worrying less about having to clean off the access oil or melting makeup.

Those with non-oily skin will have NO idea what I’m saying. But if you suffer from oilness throughout the day, you’ll know what I mean :)

So, if you’re looking for long-lasting and prepping setting sprays, I recommend these! I love how much I could save up on my foundation and concealers with these sprays. Now I don’t do my makeup without beginning with one of these setting sprays!
