Okay, so I was early on the bandwagon to try this stuff. I'm a strong follower of Benefit Cosmetics. It's hard for me to dislike anything they have. I've tried a good 60% of everything they have, and that's a lot. I may not use their products as staple all-the-time products, but heck, I can't deny that sometimes I go back to them over and over again.
So, when this revolutionary eye-liner came out, I was over the moon to try it. I absolutely love the "They're Real" mascara. The best fake lash effect mascara in the market! So, this eye-liner had to be good.
I had a good couple of months of trying this out. Has it been that long? At the first swipe of this across my lid and I was sold. It had the thickness and the intensity of a gel eyeliner. The look reminded me very much of the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliners, and I haven't used a gel eyeliner in so long because of the hassle of a separate brush to apply it. But this one comes in a pen form. You twist the bottom, and this intense black thing wells up to the front.
Now, do I love it? Well, after the first use, I'm kind of left mixed feeling. Why? Well, after using it about two times and having to twist the product up and out, I'm confused as to how to use it correctly. Sometimes there isn't enough product at the tip, sometimes there is too much. Sometimes it leaves a mess at the tip. And unless you have a thick double lid, you're going to have a hard time using this.
What do I mean by that? Well, it goes both ways. If you have a mono-lid, this can also be easy for you to use because I know mono-lid peeps draw really thick eyeliners since when they open their eyes, it has a tendency to hide away. And for people with thick double lids, I'm assuming this can be easy to use because the application is pretty thick, even if it is easy to draw a thin flick at the end. But if you have a double-lid but it's not really thick (like me), then this can be tricky. This isn't easy to erase so if you make a mistake and you feel the line is too thick, there is zero chance of you being able to smudge it with your eyeshadow, creating a smokey look.
Whew. Wordy bit, eh? Basically, the brush isn't very versatile. You can create one kind of look, and that is the kind of bad ass gal, thick feline-flick look. It's a great one, I tell you, but not easy if your eye shape is particular and you've got your own way of rocking that look.
I love that it is intense and long-wearing. I love that it creates a beautiful flick. But it's not an every-day eyeliner. It isn't for days when you want a softer look, or when you want a subtle smokey, or for days when your eyelids are flipping out (any Asian girls understand??) and you're having a hard time drawing a thin line.
Will I keep using it? Yes, of course! It is wonderful. Just not for everyday.
